Tom Petty was wrong. Starting is the hardest part…
After 4 months of personal drama, ready to let go of the past and tackle these episodes with everything I’ve got. Anyone who creates… whether it’s videos, music, painting, etc… knows how connected your work is to how you feel. If you feel like shit, if you’re ashamed of the choices you’ve been making, then chances are you won’t be inspired to make anything new. You are what you create. At least you should be. Otherwise, what’s the point?
For the longest time, haven’t been proud of who I was. While my intentions weren’t malicious, they were selfish. Was unfair to the most important people in my life, because I was afraid of losing them. You learn, however, that you lose everything when you try to keep it all. Sometimes the things you want contradict themselves. Sometimes life’s just unfair. When doubt and confusion cloud everything, it’s time to man the fuck up and let things be. Accept pain and sorrow as a necessary part of existence. Stop worrying about how you’ll feel and genuinely put others first. Took an embarrassingly long time for me to figure that out… I’m an embarrassingly slow learner.
But there’s a silver lining. When you look around at the clusterfuck you single-handedly created, you realize all is not lost. While you second guessed every aspect of your personal life, there’s something you are sure about. Something you’ll always be sure about.
I write, direct, edit, and act in every episode of Casa De Cucaracha. Love ‘em or hate ‘em (and we’ve had our fair share of both), these silly ass videos are made with my whole heart. These silly ass videos are me. When a week is spent editing an episode less than 2 minutes long, no second of that week is regretted. This show will outlive me. This show represents me. And I’m proud of that. If you’ve been with us from the start, you no doubt remember the grainy, static riddled camcorder footage from the early days. We’ve come a LONG way since. Fingers crossed, we’ll never stop progressing. Because the ability to make complete strangers laugh is a gift. And not to be taken for granted.
So pour some liquor for your foolishness. Dry your eyes. Time to clean up after the pity party. It’s February 8th. Still early. 2012 is going to count.
Time to make some funny!
